Design Achievers 2010

Michael Craig, a 22-year-old interior design student of the Design School of Southern Africa, based in Pretoria, won this year’s Design Achievers award. Michael developed the Dry-Pod, a compact shelter to protect homeless people from adverse weather and other conditions. The Design Achievers award ceremony was held at Maropeng on Africa Day, 25 May.

ConnectED2010 International Conference

sydney.jpgConnectED2010's association with the Design Educators Forum of South Africa (DEFSA) was aimed at addressing design in relation to development and a truly globalised design economy.

The four-day program took place between 28 June - 1 July 2010 in Sydney, and  provided delegates with the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas with a focus on its practice and potential for the future in a global context of cultural boundary crossing.

New design competition by Faces of Design

Faces of Design (FoD) is launching a new interdisciplinary competition to foster emerging design talent worldwide – exclusively for design students and recent graduates.

The Faces of Design TALENT Awards are based on participants' existing projects, and culminate in a presentation of the 25 most promising design talents. Their profiles will be distributed to over 1.000 key decision makers at more than 300 companies, including firms such as vitra, IKEA, the Richemont Group (including prestigious brands such as Montblanc, Cartier and Chloé), designers’ studios such as the Campanas’ and Bouroullecs’, and the design press.

2010 Design Achievers Award Winners

Michael developed the Dry-Pod, a compact shelter to protect homeless people from adverse weather and other conditions.

The Design Achievers award ceremony was held at Maropeng on Africa Day, 25 May. A total of 18 students from various design disciplines took part in this year’s Design Achievers Award scheme.
