

Cailin Ernst is a part-time lecturer at the University of Johannesburg’s Jewellery Department, where she currently coordinates the third-year level of study and lectures in the Jewellery Practice 3, Gemmology 2 and Gemmology 3 modules.
In 2016 Cailin obtained her Honours in Design, with a focus on contemporary jewellery design. Her research paper was titled, ‘Analysing the parody of sentimentally encoded jewellery in a capitalistic society’.
Driven by her passion for jewellery manufacture, Cailin has participated in many exhibitions, and designed and manufactured bespoke jewellery pieces for clients since graduating with her BTech in Jewellery Design and Manufacture in 2010.
